The Natural Amphitheater at Blanchette Park has been used over the years for musical events, plays and theatrical productions. The first photo shown here is from 1924 and the caption reads as follows.
"the first entertainment in the Natural Amphitheater at Blanchette Park in St. Charles MO. Thursday night September 18, 1924, which consisted of a concert by the St. Charles Military Band and a one act comedy was put on by Eugene Hafer calle "Points of Interest", which brought down rounds of applauses. The crowd of people attending was estimated at 2000. Following the concert Mr. Charles Kansteiner made an address from the amphitheater platform, reviewing the history of the park, praised the Natural Amphitheatre as the best in the country when developed. He told how Nelson Ganliff, former Park Commissioner of St. Louis Parks, pointed out that St. Louis would indeed give a big sum of money if it had a place with such wonderful setting designed by nature. For the occasion a platform with stage settings had been erected in the hollow and strung with many lights. After the concert program the crowd moved to the "upper levels" of the park and took in the other general picnic features of the evening. Tags were sold at 25 cents each as a means to swelling the band fund, chairs were rented out at 10 cents each.
