FAQ
(Frequently Asked Questions)

You've Got Questions? We've Got Answers!

Q. What style of music do you play?
A. Arbogast is primarily a "Classic Rock" band. We play Hendrix, Santana, Cream, SRV, Clapton, Deep Purple, Steely Dan, Led Zeppelin and many others. But it doesn't stop there. We also play 80's hits, by artists such as Men at Work, as well as newer bands, such as 3 Doors Down, Dada and the Gin Blossoms. Check out our Song List, which is updated regularly.

Q. Where does Arbogast perform?
A. We play at three types of events: Visit our Schedule page for a complete listing of upcoming appearances. If you'd like to be added to the Arbogast email list (also known as "The A-List"), just click on the link below. You'll receive an email message whenever we have a public performance.

Q. How many members are in the band?
A. The current line-up is 4 band members, plus our soundman. We usually have a 5th person as a 'guest star', on sax

Q. What is the instrumentation?
A. On Guitar is Mark Arbogast, who also shares the lead vocal duties with Jim. The Bass player is Chris Black, the Keyboardist is Harold Draper and Joe Donahue is on drums.

Q. What are the advantages of using a live band?
A. We are a band of real, live, human musicians that get excited about the music we play. The excitement is contagious and creates a musical interaction with the audience. This means that as the audience has more fun, we kick the energy up, which gets the crowd even more excited.....and on and on. If you've ever wondered why a band and a DJ can play the same tunes, but the parties with live music are always more successful, the reason is simple: Interaction. Live music creates energy and excitement that simply cannot be duplicated with recorded music.

Also, something to keep in mind - Arbogast is always 100% live music. We don't use pre-recorded vocals, music or "sequenced" tracks. All of our music and singing is done on-the-spot-for-real for the true, live band experience.

Q. How long do you typically play for?
A. Our standard time frame is two or three hours, but additional time can usually be arranged if needed.

Q. Do the songs sound like the originals?
A. Some more than others. Most of the music we play is as close to original as we can get with the instrumentation we have. People frequently tell us that we "sound just like the original."

Q. How good is your equipment?
A. All of our gear is top of the line and we have back-up for the major components. Our equipment will easily fulfill the sound requirements of most nightclubs and halls. If needed, a larger sound system can be arranged at an additional cost.

Q. How much space does the band need?
A. Ideally, we'd like a space that is 16 feet wide by 8 ft deep minimum, but we have been known to fit into very tight quarters. If you have concerns, give us a call to discuss space requirements.

For outdoor engagements, we need a covering of some kind to protect us & our gear from the elements.

Q. What time does the band arrive to set up?
A. Our typical arrival time is between 90 minutes and 2 two hours before the band's scheduled start time. If your event requires that the band set up early (more than 2 hours before the scheduled band starting time), we MUST know that PRIOR to entering into an Entertainment Agreement.

Q. How far will you travel?
A. Our standard travel range is within 60 minutes driving time from Saint Louis Metro area; however, we will travel father depending on the specific circumstances.

Q. How far in advance should we book the band?
A. Obviously, in order to insure that you get the exact date and times that you want, contact us as far in advance as possible. 12 months in advance is not uncommon if you want to be sure to get a specific date. However, dates often change and occasionally cancel. Sometimes we just have a day that stays open. You won't know unless you contact us.

Q. How much will it cost to book Arbogast for my date?
A. Ahh, the big question. The answer is: it depends (you knew we would say that). Every gig is unique and there are several factors that influence our pricing. For example, driving distance and load-in restrictions are just two things that come into play. If you would like to know exactly what we would charge for your event, just contact us and we'll be glad to give you quote.
